HUNT OFFERS INJURY BOOST

David Hockaday talks injured players…

United head coach David Hockaday is hoping to be handed an injury boost ahead of the pre-season friendly with Dundee United (3pm) with Noel Hunt training on Thursday and Friday.

The United striker was forced off during the first half at Mansfield Town on July 22 but it looks like he could be ready to feature on Saturday against the SPL side.

Another player that picked up an injury during pre-season was full-back Zac Thompson. Zac hasn’t played since Guiseley but the head coach is hoping to have him available for selection soon.

“Noel trained on Thursday so he is ok,” confirmed the head coach. “Zac Thompson isn’t too far away, we were hoping he could train on Thursday but he wasn’t quite ready.

On a less positive note, Lewis Walters is due a spell on the side lines after the head coach confirmed that surgery was needed.

But Hockaday is hopeful that Aidy White will be available in weeks, not months.

“Lewis Walters is due to have surgery so we will know more about the recovery time on that soon,” said David. “I don’t think it’s as bad as we first feared.

“And Aidy White, who was doing really well so that is a blow but from what I can gather he is a couple of weeks away. I think it is weeks, not months, before Aidy will be back.”
