SHARP DELIGHTED WITH DERBY WINNER

Striker's joy at sinking Huddersfield on Yorkshire derby day...

Billy Sharp was delighted to be "at the right place at the right time" to head home a last-gasp winner in Saturday’s Yorkshire derby victory over Huddersfield.

Sharp stepped off the bench with four minutes remaining on the clock to meet Mirco Antenucci’s pin-point cross and secure all three points with a brave back-post header.

It was the 28-year-old striker’s third goal since joining United in the summer and it ensured that Neil Redfearn’s side made it back-to-back victories for only the second time this season.

"It was good to get on the pitch and I was at the right place at the right time. It was just good to help the team out and get the win," said Sharp.

"I thought we started really well – we went 1-0 up – but when they got the goal it disrupted the play and I don’t think we really got going after that.

"It looked like it was just going to be a 1-1 draw. I’m just happy I got on the end of a chance and helped the team get three points.

"Sam Byram did really well to keep the ball in and he played it back to Mirco.

"The ball came across flat. I saw the defender having a quick look and I knew he was hesitating so I thought I would get in between and luckily it hit me on the head and went in the back of the net.

"I’ve scored a few goals at Huddersfield so I’m glad it continued on Saturday and it’s always nice when it’s the winner."

Sharp is now hoping to help maintain the side’s strong run of form, with United yet to suffer a league defeat in 2015.

"It’s two wins on the trot and win away from home which we haven’t done much," said Sharp.

"It’s four unbeaten so hopefully we can put a run together now and climb the league a little bit.

"It’s about working hard on the training ground, digging deep and working hard for each other.

"Redders keeps telling us to take it game by game. Every game in this division is tough.

"We have to go into each game with a gameplan and always stay in the game. Then we can pick up as many points as possible."
