CHARLIE PLEASED TO BE AMONG THE GOALS

Youngster delighted to be on the scoresheet again...

Charlie Taylor says adding goals to his game has been pleasing and that it is something he hopes to continue doing after netting for the second time this season in Saturday’s 2-1 win at Sheffield Wednesday.

The 21-year-old bagged his first senior goal in the defeat to Wolves earlier this month, before doubling his United tally with a close-range equaliser at Hillsborough after Luke Murphy’s free-kick fell into his path.

Naturally a left-back, the Academy graduate has occupied a more advanced role in recent weeks, meaning he was well aware that he needed to get his name on the scoresheet.

On Saturday’s goal, Charlie said: "It was a bit scrappy. I just reacted.

"It hit the wall and ricocheted about and I tucked it into the back of the net.

"With playing in the more advanced role recently, goals is something you’ve got to add to your game.

"I’ve seen Alex and Sam do it. It was something I was hoping for so I’m pleased to have got a couple this year."

Taylor also hailed the strength of character among his team-mates, who brought their six-game winless run to a halt with a spirited second-half comeback capped off by Steve Morison's winner.

"Everyone knew that we hadn’t been on a great run recently but to get the result in such a big game for the fans – a Yorkshire derby – is just extra special and one to savour," he said.

"I think the first half was one of few chances. We felt like we didn’t really deserve to go into half-time 1-0 down.

"It just shows the character of everyone to come out of that game with a result, it’s brilliant.

"I think we picked up the second balls in the second half. The pitch wasn’t one for a passing game and it was always who was going to get the second ball.

"Steve Morison was excellent up front. He battled for everything and won a heck of a lot of headers to make it difficult for them.

"It shows the character of everyone – all of the players – to stick at it.

"To come from behind and get a result, with the atmosphere and the crowd, is just brilliant."

United were backed by 3,998 travelling fans for the Yorkshire derby at Hillsborough, and Taylor was full of praise for their loyalty over the course of the season.

"I don’t think there’s been one game this season where they haven’t sold out away," he said.

"To take 4,000 to a game that has nothing really riding on it is just fantastic. I can’t compliment them enough."
