BOSS GIVES GUISELEY VERDICT

David Hockaday happy with pre-season outing…

United made the short trip to Conference North side Guiseley on Saturday as pre-season continues ahead of the 2014/15 Championship campaign, which gets underway on August 9.

United were 2-0 winners on Saturday and head coach David Hockaday was pleased with how his side performed.

David Hockaday’s men had to be patient against Guiseley as goals from Jason Pearce and Matt Smith came in the final five minutes of the game.

“What I wanted to do was dominate possession against a good footballing team and I wanted to keep a clean sheet,” said the head coach. “I am happy with that and it is what we do with the ball now that we need to work on.

“The basic culture of the team is going to be different now, we want to keep the ball and we need to get better in the final third.

“If we come out of Saturday with no injuries, which I believe will be the case, I’ll be happy.”

United played two separate Leeds XIs on Saturday, one playing the opening 60 minutes and the second played the final half-an-hour.

“We are having a look at lots of things,” explained Hockaday. “At the moment we are trying different formations and combinations.

“It is all about fitness but the fact is that we have kept a clean sheet, we’ve won the game and we dominated possession, they are three great things.

“In the final third we need to have better quality. If that was the case we could have run out very comfortable winners.”
