BOSS FRUSTRATED WITH WATFORD OUTCOME

David Hockaday gives his verdict on the weekend...

United head coach David Hockaday was left feeling angry and frustrated with the 4-1 defeat at Watford.

At 1-1 United debutant Giuseppe Bellusci received a straight red card and gave away a penalty in the second half and the head coach says that moment turned the game on its head and gave Watford the upper hand.

“With the squad we have got we went to Watford, one of the fancied teams, and up until the sending off I thought we looked relatively comfortable,” said Hockaday.

“We were passing and moving well and the boys were trying to put in what we want them to do.

“And listening to the Watford bench they were getting frustrated. They were looking to change things because it didn’t look like they were going to go on and win the game. Then after a moment of craziness we are down to 10-men and are 2-1 down.

“That changed the game and after that it was always going to be difficult. So I’m feeling anger and frustration.”

United were looking comfortable until what the head coach says was a “crazy moment”.

“I thought that we played well in the first half but after 20 minutes of the second the game had gone,” added the head coach. “I was confident that we were going to get something from the game unless something crazy happened and that is what we did.

“I have told Giuseppe that in no uncertain terms what he did was unacceptable. He has apologised to the team for what it is worth but it just gave us a mountain to climb and we couldn’t do that.

“I’ve got to be happy with the first 60 minutes as we were passing the ball well. We were frustrating them and we even looked like we might get something.

“But for it all to change on a double crazy moment is really frustrating.”

United have made 11 new signings this summer but with one week of the transfer window remaining the head coach is expecting more additions.

“People are telling me that we have lots of players,” said David. “But I’m not seeing players that have Championship experience. That is what we need, we need more quality.

“We don’t need a new team, we need two or three players at the very most with Championship quality. I think that if we can do that we will be a very competitive team in this league.

“With what we have got at the moment the boys are giving me everything.”
