ON THIS DAY: FIGHTBACK STUNS SAINTS

Nine years ago saw an almighty United come back from three down to win at St Mary's...

Nine years ago today saw perhaps THE greatest ever comeback in the club's history.

Trailing 3-0 to Harry Redknapp's Southampton at St Mary's with less than 20 minutes remaining on the clock, Kevin Blackwell's side staged a fightback of epic proportions, scoring four goals in the space of just 15 minutes to emerge 4-3 winners.

Paul Butler started the comeback on 71 minutes before Robbie Blake (77) reduced the deficit to 3-2. When David Healy scored from the penalty spot with six minutes to go, the momentum was well and truly with United, and Liam Miller secured an astonishing win just two minutes later.
