Leeds United Under-21s return to Premier League 2 action on Saturday afternoon as they welcome Newcastle United Under-21s to York’s LNER Community Stadium.

Scott Gardner’s side go into the clash having faced opposition from the North East last time out. On Teesside, the Whites drew 4-4 with Middlesbrough after taking the lead through Harvey Vincent’s early strike.

A brace from in-form forward Carrick Njinko and thunderous Freddie Lane effort followed but the spoils were shared after Boro enjoyed a strong second half showing.

Prior to that one, United had beaten West Bromwich Albion and fell to a narrow defeat at Liverpool to begin the new PL2 campaign, as well as also gaining valuable minutes in the National League Cup against senior opponents in Boreham Wood and Solihull Moors.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have struggled for form to begin the term and have fallen to defeat in both league outings to date, including a 4-0 loss at home to Fulham most recently.

Away from the PL2, the Magpies have enjoyed more success, running out 3-1 victors over York City in the EFL Trophy, at the same venue as Saturday’s encounter.

Action from the LNER Community Stadium gets underway at 12:30pm.
