Leeds United Under-21s are back in Premier League 2 Division 2 action on Monday evening, as they travel north to face Sunderland.

The Whites head to the Stadium of Light looking to continue their recent fine form, which has seen the side take their place at the top of the table at this early stage of the season.

Michael Skubala’s side have also been in action elsewhere of late, with a thoroughly entertaining 5-3 victory in the Papa John’s Trophy coming last Tuesday, against Sky Bet League Two side, Tranmere Rovers.

Monday’s hosts will be looking for their first home win of the campaign on Monday night. The side have struggled for form early in the season, with just the one win from six matches, which was a thumping 4-0 success away at Derby County.

Both the Black Cats and the Whites have seen plenty of goals in their matches, which shows we could be in for another entertaining encounter. Sunderland’s two home games up to now have notched up 10 goals, but seven of them have been for the opposition.

A player to keep an eye on and one who will keep the visiting defence busy, is Max Thompson. The forward has scored five goals in five games, meaning he will be a threat throughout.

There will also be a new face in the dugout for the hosts, with the recently appointed Graeme Murty now in charge of the Under-21s set up at the club.

Leeds are on an impressive run of matches which has seen Skubala’s side regularly finding the net. A superb return of 24 goals scored in six games has been the catalyst for the climb to the top of the table.

Mateo Joseph is the top-scorer for the side with eight goals from six games, whilst fellow forward Sonny Perkins has seven - but has impressively scored in every match he has featured in during the 2022/23 campaign, including internationally!
