Leeds United Women ran out rampant 7-0 winners over Blackburn this afternoon, with first half goals from Drew Greene early on, and a Chloe Dixon brace, before second half goals from Amy Woodruff, Darcie Greene, Alice Hughes and Monique Watson secured the scoreline.
The Whites flew out of the blocks, with Drew Greene opening the scoring in the fourth minute, before Dixon made it back-to-back braces, this time against her former side, with a calm finish into the bottom corner, and a crashing effort off the bar.
The second half followed similar suit, with Woodruff making it four after three minutes of the second period, and Darcie Greene cutting inside to curl the ball top corner adding to the tally.
Hughes rose highest from a corner to score the sixth, towering a header into the back of the net, and Watson was in the right place at the right time, finishing a nice team move at the back post into the back of an empty net.
After the same, Whites boss Simon Wood said: “We’ve had performances this year where we’ve shown glimpses of what we see on the training field, but today you’ve seen a performance from the first, until the 90th minute where we’ve done the simple things really well.
“Credit to all the players, the players that came off the bench gave us a different sort of energy in the second half, so yeah, a really pleasing performance.
“The performance today has given us a platform to go and play how we play, but we want to see that in the next group of games now and we want to keep building and get it stronger.
“Last week when we played, we counted 11 chances in the second half, and we only had one on target, so we asked to play calmly in the final third today, and to be calm.
On York next week: “It’s another game of football – we say this every week that we want to go out and perform, we want to win, but it probably gives us that little bit of relaxing from the league, and that’s why today was so big.
“We haven’t got as many points as we want on the board, so a win today is a good win that builds us up the table.
“We go into the cup next week, which gives the chance for the squad to go and show what they’re about and take their claims for places too.”
