Leeds United Women recorded a convincing 7-0 victory over Blackburn this afternoon, with goals coming from Drew Greene and a brace from Chloe Dixon in the first half, and second half finishes from Amy Woodruff, Darcie Greene, Alice Hughes and Monique Watson.
Drew Greene got the Whites off to a perfect start, as her fourth-minute header set the tone for the game, before Chloe Dixon bagged back-to-back braces, this time against her former side, finishing calmly into the bottom corner for her first, and a crashing finish off the bar to double her tally.
Speaking after the game, Dixon said: “As a team, it’s something that we needed.
“We’ve been saying every week that we need to start putting teams away, and I think this is the first time we’ve done that.
“We spoke at half time and we said, we’re 3-0 up but football is anyones game, and it only takes them to get one back and they’re going to get momentum, we said we need to go out as if it’s 0-0 and get back on it.
“Whoever got that first goal, it is going to be massively important and we did that, and then I think we pushed on even further.
“It’s been a frustrating last couple of weeks, so making sure we went in to half time 3-0 up, and then coming out, getting that first goal in the second half was crucial just to push on,” Greene added.
“You’ve seen quite a few substitutions, girls getting in minutes, and I think it just boosts everyone’s confidence."
