Leeds United Women will be keen to make it three successive victories in the FA WNL Division One North as they travel over the Pennines to face Cheadle Town on Sunday at 2pm.
Back-to-back victories over Durham Cestria and Doncaster Rovers Belles has propelled Simon Wood’s side up the table as they currently sit in fourth place, two points adrift of Sunday’s opposition.
Before the match, Shauna Legge gave her thoughts to leedsunited.com, praising her teammates for those important league wins.
“I feel like we needed that,” the defender said. “It was an important six-point week for us and I feel like we set out to do exactly that and we managed to execute that well.
“Obviously, it was slightly disappointing with the Middlesbrough result in the cup, but overall the actual performance was good. We have been struggling with injuries recently so a couple of our Under-21s players stepped up and they both did really well.
“We said from the start about being a squad and I feel like there has been a bit of rotation in the team, sometimes due to injuries and other times due to formation and tactical tweaks.
“I feel like we have managed that pretty well. Ellie White and Alice Hughes have been out for a while now and I feel like obviously when they are back it will help us out massively, but I do feel like we have managed it well.
“We always set out with that squad mentality and it is not just an XI and bench players or anything like that, it is a whole squad and we all like to club together and obviously impact the game as a the team.”
The centre-half joined her childhood club over the summer, after making the switch from third-tier side Halifax Women.
“Personally, I have really enjoyed it,” she added, reflecting on her first few months with the Whites.
“I think that I am really happy with my decision to come here. I felt really welcomed and just feel like I have settled in, like I have been here forever.
“We have had a tough start to the league campaign, but like I say, it is a process and I feel like last week was really important for us to get six points on the board and it has put us in a better position than what we were in.
“Obviously, it is a long season, so we have got a long time yet and the league showed itself that anyone can beat anyone on the day. There are no easy games in this league.
“Cheadle have had a really strong start. I know a few of their players from playing at previous clubs with them and they have got some really good players and like I say, they have made a really solid start to the league. Hopefully we can upset that on Sunday.”
