Scott Gardner will take his Under-18s side to face Nottingham Forest on Saturday lunchtime (12:00).
The young Whites began their season last weekend, beating Everton 2-1 at Thorp Arch, and will now go in search of another three points.
Reflecting on the win over the Toffees and previewing the Forest clash, the U18s manager gave his thoughts.
“I thought overall it was a positive performance from us, although we were a little bit rusty with it being our first game of the season,” Gardner explained, following the opening day win.
“In the first half we just lacked a bit of cutting edge in the final third, but in the second half we definitely were on top and we got the win we deserved from the performance.
“We’ve still got plenty of things to work on.
“From the staff point of view we’re really keen to push our players on to help them develop, and the results will come secondary to that.
“It’s important to the players to play in the style we want to play, which is mirrored down from the first team, so there’s a lot of elements that should be transferable between age groups.”
This weekend Gardner’s side travel to face Nottingham Forest, in their first away trip of the campaign.
“We want more of the same in terms of effort and application from the players,” Gardner stated.
“We’ve got a few areas to tidy up and to progress on from last week.
“Forest’s game got abandoned at half-time at the weekend so we’ve only been able to watch a little bit of them.
“We’re used to pretty much everything that’s thrown at us and we adapt as necessary. The main focus is on us, but we have to be aware of the opposition strengths and weaknesses."
