Longstanding Leeds United Women’s player Sarah Danby will call time on her illustrious career following the Whites’ final league game this weekend, away at York City Ladies.

Having already represented the club previously, Danby rejoined United in 2021 and has gone on to make over 100 appearances in her second stint in West Yorkshire.

This campaign, the 34-year-old has featured 23 times in all competitions for Simon Wood’s side, scoring three goals including a superb free-kick away at Durham Cestria back in February.

An integral part for the Whites in recent years, Danby played a crucial role in helping the team lift the FA Women’s National League Plate in 2023, as well as featuring against WSL powerhouses Arsenal in the Women’s FA Cup.

The prestigious competition is something the Sunderland-born player has enjoyed throughout her career, earlier reaching the final in 2009 with the Black Cats.

During her time at Leeds, Sarah has been exemplary off the pitch as well as on it, often dedicating a lot of time to the Leeds United Foundation and its invaluable work within the community.

After the FA WNL schedule draws to a close on Sunday, Danby will proudly captain the Great Britain Police team at this summer’s European Championships in Germany, before ultimately hanging up her boots.

Everyone at Leeds United would like to thank Sarah for her service to the club and congratulate her on an outstanding career. We wish her all the best for the summer tournament and her future endeavours.

Sarah sat down with LUTV to discuss her career following the announcement. Watch that below.
