Leeds United Under-21s kick off their Premier League 2 season this evening with a trip to the bet365 Stadium to face Stoke City.
Young midfielder Sam Chambers enjoyed an impressive pre-season as he linked up with Daniel Farke’s first team, joining up with the squad for their training camp in Germany.
Now as the new campaign awaits Scott Gardner’s U21s, Chambers hopes to use the time spent with the senior side to help him kick on as he continues his development at Thorp Arch.
“It was a really good experience for me,” the attacking midfielder told LUTV.
“Getting a few minutes and just being involved around experienced players in training, I felt like I was getting better every day physically and tactically. They were really good with me so I really enjoyed it.”
Chambers featured off the bench in the Whites’ pre-season opener against Harrogate Town and would grab a debut goal for the club, finishing well from the edge of the area as the Whites ran out 3-0 winners.
“It was a dream come true,” he added. “The ball came out to me and I thought I might as well shoot to try and make the biggest impact I can and luckily it went in! I was delighted with that and it was a great moment for myself and my family.”
The 17-year-old was part of Rob Etherington’s side that reached the FA Youth Cup final and is now hungry for more success with the club.
“It was great to help the team get to the final, which was a great experience playing at the Etihad. I also got minutes with the Under-21s and a first goal as well, so it was a good learning season and I hope to keep pushing from there.
“I hope to be around the first team more because the main goal is to make my debut, but I need to keep progressing with the Under-21s squad, adding more goals and assists.
“I am a number 10, so I like to drive forward with the ball and get goals and assists for the team. But I can also do defensive work, I’m not afraid to track back and help the team out.”
