Leeds United Women fell to their second league defeat of the season at the hands of neighbours Bradford City on Tuesday night.
The Whites kicked off the West Yorkshire derby, looking to make it five league wins in a row and started on the attack with top-scorer Laura Bartup firing over from 30 yards.
Abbie Brown then came close to putting Leeds ahead, but she pulled her shot just wide of the post.
Bradford’s first chance came through Keegan Lambert, who headed wide following a Zoe Roberts free-kick.
Bartup continued to threaten for the Whites, coming close on a couple of occasions, first seeing a shot held by Hannah Richards, before firing inches wide off the far post.
Brown then went on a mazy run, but saw her shot denied by Richards once more in the City goal.
Rebecca Hunt went close in the 31st minute, after beating three Bantams defenders, she shot just wide from the edge of the area.
Amy-Leigh Barringham-Buck fired over for the hosts and with eight minutes of the first half remaining, it was Bradford who went in front, with Sophie Hawkins firing past Georgia Wattam from 15 yards.
Half time: Bradford City Women 1-0 Leeds United Women
Leeds started the second half brightly and nearly went level when Sarah Danby saw her shot land on roof of the Bradford net.
Brown was still causing Bradford problems and again went close, this time firing across the face of goal.
With chances few and far between until the final 15 minutes, Roberts almost doubled City’s lead, seeing a free-kick go just over the crossbar.
Leeds pushed for an equaliser and it so nearly came when Bartup hit the crossbar, before forcing Richards into a smart stop.
Bartup again went agonisingly close in the dying minutes, this time seeing a header cleared off the line.
Despite continued pressure, Bradford held on for all three points, to end Leeds’ winning streak.
