Leeds United will look to ride the momentum from two thrilling, brave performances at Elland Road last week as they head to London to face Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Last Wednesday, United delivered a stunning upset of Club World Cup champions Chelsea, dominating Enzo Maresca’s unit and winning thanks to goals from Jaka Bijol, Ao Tanaka and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Leeds' expected goal tally of 2.82 was the highest any team have registered against the Blues this season, including in their Champions League fixtures!
And on Saturday, it was another battling performance from the Whites, who recovered from 2-0 and 3-2 deficits to secure a point from reigning Premier League champions Liverpool. Calvert-Lewin and Anton Stach were back in amongst the goals, and it was Japanese international Tanaka who sent Elland Road into ecstasy with a 96th minute strike to put Leeds a point further from the relegation zone.
Calvert-Lewin will be aiming to net his fourth goals in as many games and Tanaka his third in three.
Daniel Farke's side are currently 16th in the table after the first 15 matches, four points behind 14th placed Brentford, who will be looking to find form in what has been an up-and-down season for Keith Andrews' side.
The Bees have picked up wins against the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Aston Villa and Newcastle. But having lost three straight away matches, Brentford will look to distance themselves from the bottom three as they return home.
Over the years, there have been some memorable encounters between the two teams. Leeds and the Bees have faced off against one another 34 times, with the Whites winning 11 and drawing 12 of those matches. Brentford’s promotion to League One for the 2009/10 season marked the first time the sides had met in 48 years.
Most memorably in recent times, a 94th minute Jack Harrison goal secured all three points for Leeds on the final day in 2022, ensuring United would play another season in the Premier League and leading to brilliant scenes in the stands and on the touchline.
Action from the Gtech Community Stadium gets underway at 4:30pm and you can follow all the action across leedsunited.com, as well as on LUTV.
