Mark Jackson will take a Leeds United Under-21s side to face Sky Bet League Two outfit, Salford City on Tuesday evening in their final Group B match in the Papa John’s Trophy (19:00).

After impressively beating Oldham Athletic away from home last time out in the competition, Jackson’s side sit third in the group and have kept up their hopes of qualification to the knock-out stages.

So far, Salford have lost both of their matches. A one-nil defeat away at Oldham was followed up with a two-nil home loss to Tranmere Rovers, leaving them bottom of the group.

All matches have to have a winner on the night, with a penalty shoot-out deciding who is awarded an extra point should the 90 minutes end in a draw. Every team in the group plays each other once.

All four teams in the group could still progress to the next round, or exit the competition. A Leeds win would move them onto six points, level with Tranmere, who play Oldham in their final match who currently have three points.

Salford are currently bottom of the group with no points, but could still qualify with a victory over the Whites and a swing in goal difference with Oldham, if they also lose to Tranmere.

There is also the possibility of the matches ending in a draw, which would then mean a vital point would be up for grabs for the winner of the resulting penalty shoot-out.

Salford will exit the competition on Tuesday evening if they draw with or lose to Leeds. Leeds will exit the competition if they lose to Salford.

Nothing will be decided qualification wise on Tuesday evening, as Tranmere and Oldham don’t play one another until next week. That means despite whoever takes the points at the Peninsula Stadium, the group can still all change upon the conclusion of the final match.
