The Leeds United Foundation recently hosted a special Premier League Primary Stars workshop with the help of Max Wöber and Ilia Gruev.
The first-team stars were on hand to meet a small group of students and teachers at Rothwell St Mary’s Primary School as well as coaches from the club’s official charity, as they took part in a fun outdoor session to support with the development of teamwork, confidence and engagement.
During the Premier League Primary Stars session, which usually range from indoor educational workshops to outdoor sporting activities, the students got involved in a variety of tasks with the two Leeds United players supporting each pupil before they answered some questions from the group.
Lucy Moate, Premier League Primary Stars Co-Ordinator at the Leeds United Foundation said: “The sessions I do at this school are football interventions, so we get children in small groups doing different football games and activities, and it really helps with their social skills and effective communication and teamwork.
“It was really good to have the players here today, the kids were so excited, and it was nice for them to see some of the things the Foundation do and the impact we can have on the children.”
Ilia Gruev, also spoke to LUTV during the community visit and said: “I enjoyed it a lot, it was really nice to see the children and to see that we can put a smile on their faces, it was an awesome feeling and it’s been a wonderful day for us.
“I think it’s really important to learn as soon as possible the skills you need in life, and it was nice to see that the people here are very friendly, and kind, and they are helping the children to develop and to stay active through sports which is fun for them.”
Austrian international, Max Wöber, added: “You could see the fire in the eyes, and you could see how much fun it was for the kids, and I think also for both of us. I think everyone in the school was happy today and I think it’s always good to give something back, especially to the kids.”
Premier League Primary Stars uses the appeal of professional football clubs, such as Leeds United, to engage children and inspire them to be active and develop important life skills.
The programme has been developed and is managed by the Premier League Charitable Fund, a Premier League funded charity which aims to create positive and lasting sporting, health and education outcomes for children, young people and the wider community.
