Leeds United Under-21s will be looking to extend their winning streak to six matches in all competitions, when they welcome Newcastle United Under-21s to Thorp Arch in Friday afternoon's 1pm kick off.
It was on Premier League 2 duties last time round that Scott Gardner’s side picked up another important three points, with a hard-fought 1-0 victory away at Nottingham Forest.
The Whites had dominated the first half but were unable to break the deadlock before the break. The hosts themselves then pushed for the opener after the interval, but captain on the night Alfie Cresswell found the back of the net with a free kick from the edge of the area in the dying minutes to win it for United.
That result, as well as previous victories over Tottenham and West Bromwich Albion, lifts Leeds into eighth place in the PL2 standings, two points clear of Friday’s visitors Newcastle.
The Magpies have won three of their opening seven fixtures, but did fall to defeat last time out with a 2-0 loss at the hands of Manchester United.
Before that result however, Newcastle had picked up two impressive wins against Blackburn Rovers and Aston Villa.
The two sides met towards the end of last campaign, with Luca Thomas’ late brace ensuring the Whites picked up all three points on Tyneside!
Action from Thorp Arch gets underway at 1pm.
