Leeds United’s future stars were recognised on a special evening at Elland Road’s Centenary Pavilion, as the club hosted its annual Academy Player of the Year awards.

The event brought together players from across the age groups, from U8s through to the U21s, celebrating another year of development and achievement within the Whites’ Academy system.

Former Leeds United defender Ben Parker, who himself progressed through the ranks at Thorp Arch, hosted the evening. First team players Ethan Ampadu, Alex Cairns and Sam Byram were also in attendance, supporting the next generation of talent.

Morris recognised by his peers

The U18s Players’ Player of the Year award was presented to Jack Morris following an impressive campaign.

Morris featured 19 times for the U18s across league and FA Youth Cup competitions, scoring seven goals and registering two assists. His strikes came against Everton, Stoke City, Blackburn Rovers, Nottingham Forest, Burnley, Manchester City and Wolves.

The forward also captained the U18s on seven occasions, underlining his importance within the squad. His development also saw him step up to U21 level four times, making three appearances in Premier League 2 and featuring in the Premier League International Cup.

Pickles earns U21 honour

At U21 level, the Players’ Player of the Year award went to Ollie Pickles after a standout season.

Pickles made 31 appearances across four competitions - Premier League 2, the Premier League International Cup, National League Cup and EFL Trophy - playing a total of 2,845 minutes.

He scored three goals during the campaign, including one against West Ham United in PL2 and a brace against Gateshead in the National League Cup. The midfielder also captained the side three times, leading the team against Crystal Palace, Sporting CP and R.S.C. Anderlecht.

Individual brilliance recognised

Two standout moments from the season were also honoured on the night. Josh Woolfrey was awarded the Academy Save of the Season (U16–U21) for an outstanding stop against Manchester United’s U16s, while Owen Heywood claimed the Academy Goal of the Season (U16–U21) for his strike against Stoke City’s U16s.

Legacy awards introduced

The evening also saw the introduction of the first-ever Academy Legacy Awards, recognising players who have progressed through the club’s youth system and gone on to represent Leeds United at senior level.

Academy stalwarts Alan Sutton, Neil Thompson and Andy Wood presented the awards to Jonny Howson, Aaron Lennon, Alex Cairns, Sam Byram, Scott Gardner and Ben Parker.

The awards night once again highlighted the strength of Leeds United’s Academy pathway, celebrating both emerging talent and those who have gone on to make their mark in the professional game.
