This week marks Organ Donation Week and the Leeds United Women FC team threw their support behind the awareness campaign ahead of their game on Wednesday night against Bradford City.
All of the players sported Be A Hero t-shirts during their warm-up and a number of staff members from Yorkshire's dedicated organ donation campaign were in attendance along with their Superhero mascot to engage with fans and speak to players..
Be A Hero work with Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and NHS Blood and Transport to help drive awareness of organ donation in the Yorkshire region.
The campaign was launched in 2015 in partnership with Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and since its launch has worked to encourage as many people as possible to sign up to the organ donor register.
A big focus for the campaign this year is the topic of #DonationConversation and educating people on the importance of discussing your wishes with regards to organ donation with your family and loved ones.
There is an upcoming law change in 2020 that plans to introduce an opt-in and opt-out scheme for organ donation, whereby adults who have not registered their decision will be presumed organ donors. However families will still have the ability to have their say, with the final decision lying with them, meaning hundreds of people who may not have had the conversation with their families may not have their wishes honoured.
Therefore it is more important than ever before to initiate that #DonationConversation with those closest to you and together we can help to save the life of someone who is in desperate need of an organ transplant.
You can register your decision here.
