Leeds United Football Club will pay its respects to those who have served our country on Saturday as we take on Queens Park Rangers in the Sky Bet Championship, with a special tribute and moment of silence held prior to kick off.
Our dedicated Remembrance fixture will feature a number of activities as we commemorate the sacrifices of servicemen and women, past and present.
Ahead of kick-off each captain will lay a wreath at the side of the pitch, along with a number of other wreaths that will be laid by veterans Dave Brown for the Parachute Regiment, Derek McHugh of the Coldstream Guard and John Speak from Light Infantry.
Both teams will then take their place around the centre-circle before a moment of silence is observed during a performance of The Last Post, which will be played live by Donna Ardron with the support of Julie Wroe of the Cawthorne Brass Band, at the side of the pitch.
Also present will be a number of our own veterans that attend the weekly Combat Café, hosted at Elland Road through the work of our Leeds United Foundation. The veterans we work with have all seen action and lost brothers in arms, including some who have served in the Falklands in 1982, Malaya, Northern Ireland, Iraq, Borneo and Afghanistan.
All of the players involved in the game will be wearing shirts emblazoned with a poppy, and these shirts will be made available for auction following the game – with all proceeds going to local and national military charities. Please keep an eye on the official Leeds United website and Match Worn Shirt for further information.
A massive thank you to all of those who will be in attendance to help mark Remembrance Day at Elland Road, along with all of the servicemen and women who have fought for our country.
We will remember them.
