Ahead of a big week for the Whites, Laura Bartup has assessed the start to the season for her side, whilst looking ahead to Thursday night’s clash with Barnsley.

Bouncing back from defeat last time out to win against Alnwick on Sunday, Leeds head into this Yorkshire derby looking for back-to-back wins.

“We’ve had three games so far. In the first game we got a late winner and we were all buzzing about that, then in the second game we were gutted to lose at Chorley,” Bartup explained.

“I don’t think we’ve been at our best but I also don’t think we deserved to lose the match we did, we know they weren’t necessarily better than us but individual errors cost us, so it was our own fault.

“We’ve been working hard in training and we put things right at the weekend by getting a good win at Alnwick.

“We know we need to be scoring more goals - myself included - as we’ve had a lot of chances in those matches. It’s all about three points though, if that’s one-nil then three points are three points."

Having played for and impressed with the club during her time with the Reds, Bartup knows the upcoming game will be a tough challenge, but it is one she is relishing.

She said: “We’re looking forward to playing Barnsley.

"I’m not sure how many players they still have from my time there but we know every game in this league will be tough, nobody underestimates anyone.

“Hopefully we can get the three points in a local derby and then get that feeling of being buzzing again at the end of the game.

“When you play against a former club you always have that little bit of extra fire in your belly, and a derby match always means more.

“I am always up for every game, but when it is against a team you used to play for as well, you want those points more than anything.

“I’m looking forward to playing them, we’ve got a good squad and I believe we can have a six point week if we play as we’re capable of doing!

"It would be amazing to see more fans come down and support us, they've been brilliant so far and we are looking forward to playing in front of them again."
