Prostate Cancer UK Ambassador and Volunteer Speaker John Brownless spent a day with the Leeds United Foundation, helping spread potentially life-saving information about prostate cancer.
Speaking to the Veterans’ Café in the morning and the Ups and Downs Café in the afternoon, John presented participants with information and clarification of the disease, aiming at clarifying misconceptions and raising awareness about the condition.
In March 2026, avid Leeds United supporter John was invited to Thorp Arch for a special visit, where he was presented with a signed shirt from Sam Byram, after raising more than £200,000 for Prostate Cancer UK.
At just 42 years old, John was diagnosed with prostate cancer, and he has since made it his mission to raise awareness and donations to support the research into the disease and help those who have gone through or are going through treatment.
Prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer in men, affecting one in eight, so it is crucial that everybody knows the symptoms and risk factors, a key starting point in John’s presentation.
After his day at Elland Road, John: “It was a privilege to deliver two awareness sessions on behalf of Prostate Cancer UK to both the Leeds United Veterans Group and the Supporters Group at the Ups & Downs Café.
“The engagement from attendees was excellent, with both sessions generating thoughtful questions, open discussion, and meaningful conversations around prostate cancer awareness, risk factors, and the importance of early detection.
“It was particularly encouraging to see so many people willing to share experiences and seek advice, helping to break down barriers around a subject that is often not discussed openly.
“Leeds United should be commended for supporting these initiatives and providing opportunities to educate and inform their community on an issue that affects so many men and their families."
Everyone at Leeds United would like to thank John for the hard work he does to raise awareness for a commonly understood disease. His efforts are inspirational and are appreciated by so many.
