Lienou & Pickles BHM Visit Oct 21 Close Up

Leeds United Under-21s duo Jayden Lienou and Ollie Pickles visited Whitecote Primary School to join a Leeds United Foundation education session celebrating Black History Month.

Delivered as part of the Foundation’s Primary Stars programme, the session engaged Year 5 pupils in discussions about black history, positive role models and the importance of community.

Focusing on the 2026 theme, ‘Honouring Our Communities’, the workshop explored individuals from the past and present who have helped shape society, while encouraging students to reflect on their own communities and the role models who inspire them.

The two players joined the discussions, sharing their experiences and reflecting on their own role models growing up. The visit also gave pupils the opportunity to ask questions about the players’ football journeys, offering insight into the importance of resilience, determination and ambition when working towards their goals.

After the session, Pickles said: “It was great to come in and visit the class. The children had some good questions and it was nice to get involved with the session.”

Lienou added: “It was good to see the kids getting stuck in and talking about their role models. Hopefully they enjoyed having us there and took something away from learning about Black History Month.”

Through its Primary Stars programme, the Leeds United Foundation delivers educational sessions in local schools, using the power of football to support young people’s learning, development and understanding of important social issues.

The afternoon provided a valuable opportunity to raise awareness of Black History Month, encourage meaningful conversations and educate the young generation about the importance of the month.
