The Leeds United Foundation recently celebrated Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year festival, during some educational workshops as part of their Premier League Kicks (PL Kicks) programme.

The annual holiday is celebrated by Jewish people around the world and this year it took place from Friday 15th September to Sunday 17th September.

Over the course of two weeks, coaches that work on the PL Kicks initiative delivered a number of workshops around the origins and beliefs of Judaism, and how the religion has helped to shape the society that we live in today.

The young people taking part in the educational sessions were able to learn more about the ten commandments, the exodus of Jewish people, the dietary laws within the religion and gain a better understanding of their places of worship and their beliefs.

PL Kicks offers children in more deprived areas of the city the chance to play football in a safe environment, but these workshops also help to teach the youngsters about different cultures, with the main aim of promoting peace and bringing people together to celebrate different occasions.

Coaches were also supported by youth workers from Leeds City Council who helped to deliver fun quiz’s and lots of prizes for the participants.
