Former Leeds United defender Clarke Carlisle recently showcased his intellectual prowess on ITV's The 1% Club, winning £100,000 for UNICEF's Soccer Aid.
On a special edition of the quiz show, Carlisle was one of 100 celebrities and sports stars aiming to raise funds for UNICEF's initiative, with his standout moment coming when he correctly answered a question about the England national team's anthem, "Three Lions".
Asked "In the opening verse to the original version of 'Three Lions', what two words feature exactly three times in the lyrics?", the 45 year old correctly answered "it" and "know", with comedian Lloyd Griffith unable to follow suit.
Hosted by Lee Mack, the event was part of the broader efforts surrounding Soccer Aid 2025, a charity match that has become a staple in the UK's fundraising calendar and has so far raised more than £100 million, to protect children from disease and malnutrition, support their mental health, and respond to crises in regions around the world.
Carlisle joined Leeds United in 2004, making 32 appearances and scoring four goals during a single season at the club. Despite an ankle injury that limited his playing time, he made a strong impression before transferring to Watford the following summer.
