Daniel Farke: We were not switched on enough

Boss reflects on Forest defeat.

Daniel Farke vs Nottingham Forest

Despite Lukas Nmecha’s first-half strike against Nottingham Forest, Leeds United slipped to defeat at the City Ground on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking to LUTV at full-time, Whites’ boss Daniel Farke explained how he thought the game got away from his side.

“On this level, small details always make the difference,” the German began. “In small situations, we were not switched on enough.

“We had a good start, excellent finish from Lukas Nmecha to go and lead. I was a bit frustrated that we gave this lead so easily and cheaply away, because normally when you go and lead, you have to take this euphoria in order to have more pressure on the ball, to be aware.

“Perhaps we were still celebrating because whatever 90 seconds after going ahead then to concede so early the equaliser was of course one decisive moment.

“Second decisive moment was in the 2-1. Self-critically, we have to say, yeah, long ball, then the cross comes in. We have to defend the man in the box better.

“Of course, we tried everything to bring many offensive-thinking players on the pitch because we wanted this equaliser so much and a bit of clumsy behaviour of course and we gave the penalty away.

“For them it was a must-win game, home game here against us, who are just promoted into this league and we have several points clear, so always got the feeling the longer the game goes, the more chances we will get.

“And of course we wanted also to win this game but then you have to make sure that you are on it. We didn’t give too much away but we have conceded in both away games and also today three goals and this is a bit annoying.

“Again in the decisive moments we have to be clinical in defending, we have to return back to our best behaviour in terms of what we did in the beginning of the season with many clean sheets.”
