Leeds United Women will be keen to get back to winning ways this weekend as they host Middlesbrough Women, after being held to a draw last time out against Stockport County Ladies.
Coming from a goal behind to lead in Cheshire, the hosts equalised in cruel fashion late on to deny Simon Wood’s side of all three points.
Now, going into Sunday’s clash with Boro, goalkeeper Carrie Simpson says the squad are looking to use the frustration from their last match as motivation for when they face the Teessiders.
“The mood at the end of the game almost felt like a defeat, although obviously we managed to get a point on the board,” she explained.
“Everyone was very disappointed, we felt like we had lost the game. Everyone was very downbeat.
“We came so close to winning the game, so drawing is always pretty hard to take. But overall, I think we went a goal down, managed to come back and take the lead, and we thought we had got some good control in the game.
“We figured out their formation pretty well and managed to defend as a unit. It was a disappointing end, but it felt like we had a pretty strong performance in some areas.
“I think we have had a tough run of games for the first four or five games of the league campaign. We have got probably a lot of the league contenders in there, with obviously Middlesbrough coming up this week.
“Stockport are a very good team and Huddersfield are as well. They will both be pushing for promotion. I think it has been tough, but overall we have got a win, a loss and a draw. I think if we would have got three points on Sunday, we would have been feeling a little bit happier about it.
“Again, Middlesbrough will be a very tough side. They have recruited well and they have got some good players from Newcastle United that have dropped into that team.
“It will be one of the most challenging games of the season, with a team that will definitely share our aim of promotion come the end of the year. I think it will be tough, but we are ready and prepared. Hopefully we can get the three points.”
