Leeds United Women welcome rivals Middlesbrough Women to the Bannister Prentice Stadium in Sunday’s FAWNL Division One North clash.
The Whites have responded brightly to a narrow opening day defeat at the hands of Huddersfield Town, with an impressive 3-1 victory away at AFC Fylde registering a first win of the season for Simon Wood’s squad.
A richly deserved 2-0 triumph over third tier side Halifax Women saw Leeds progress into the next round of the FA WNL Cup, with midfielder Sarah Danby grabbing a second goal in as many games to help United overcome the Calderdale outfit.
A Kath Smith penalty and Amy Woodruff header had put Leeds on course to beat Stockport County at the weekend, turning round an early one goal deficit in Cheshire, before substitute Jess Brady’s goal frustratingly salvaged a late point for the hosts deep into injury time.
Middlesbrough, meanwhile, sit three points above the Whites in the early season standings, having won two of their three matches so far.
A first half goal from Jessica Mett proved to be the difference as Boro hosted newly promoted Cheadle Town Stingers first up, before they were held to a 1-1 draw by local rivals Norton & Stockton Ancients away from home.
After dismantling Durham Cestria in the FA WNL Cup, the Teessiders continued their impressive start to the season as, like Leeds, they recorded a 3-1 victory over AFC Fylde.
In the same fixture last campaign, Boro headed back up the A1 with all three points after a closely fought encounter was decided by Ellen Packham’s first-half header.
Action from the Bannister Prentice Stadium gets underway at 2pm.
