Steve Evans has dedicated United’s back-to-back victories to Skye Thompson, the tragic young Leeds fan who recently lost her life.

Speaking after Saturday’s 3-0 Yorkshire derby win over Huddersfield Town, the head coach said: “We all think of ourselves and our team and our club together, but there was a young lady, Skye Thompson, who recently lost her life.

“Her family, Season Ticket holders, came to pay their respects at the Blackburn game and we were appalling that night.

“Our performance didn’t befit her memory in any shape or form whatsoever from this fantastic football club.

“I said to the players ‘Go and deliver us back-to-back wins and we’ll put that to her memory’.

“The back-to-back wins are for that young lady and her family.

“We’re sorry we let you down against Blackburn Rovers, but our thoughts are with you this evening.”
