IPSWICH: DECISIONS TO BE MADE - ROSLER

Head coach to assess Alex Mowatt and Jordan Botaka...

Uwe Rosler has revealed that Alex Mowatt was the player entering Saturday’s draw with Brentford as an injury doubt, and the midfielder will now be assessed ahead of Tuesday night’s visit of Ipswich Town.

Mowatt started the game at Elland Road but was withdrawn at half-time to be replaced by eventual goalscorer Mirco Antenucci.

“I wanted to bring another striker on but that was not the reason I took Alex Mowatt off,” Rosler explained. “He was the player who was doubtful before the game.

“At some point I had to substitute him and I decided to do it early on.

“It wasn’t because the player had not played well, I think he was one of the players who linked well and gave us momentum at the start of the game.

“He looked dangerous in the final third but he had a certain issue before the game.

“We’ll see now how he reacts now overnight and how he is for Tuesday night.”

New signing Jordan Botaka was made to wait for his United debut after not being involved on Saturday, but Rosler says the decision to instead give the winger another training session was agreed between himself and the player.

“Jordan and I had a conversation – he had not trained much in the last 10 days to two weeks,” he said.

“He had training sessions on Thursday and Friday and we both were talking about what is the best for Jordan and the best for us.

“We came to the agreement that today would be a very good opportunity to train him instead and bring him up to speed.

“We have to put Jordan in a position where he can really live up to the expectation that he has for himself, but also the expectation that our supporters have for him.

“To throw him in would have been unfair. We have to bring him to a level where he can do himself justice.

“He was part of that decision and that’s why we decided to have a training session for him today.”

Asked if Botaka could feature on Tuesday, Rosler said: “We will make a decision. He had a hard day on Saturday so we’ll see how he reacted.

“There are two options. The first is that he will be involved on Tuesday, the second option is that he will play on Monday – the full 90 minutes for the Under-21s (vs Bristol City).”
