Brian McDermott described Tuesday’s trip to Watford as “horrible” and “embarrassing” after watching his side slip to a 3-0 defeat.

Two first half goals effectively ended the contest before Watford wrapped things up with a third after the interval.

“We gave them two goals and even though they didn’t have a lot of the game, they scored twice in the first half,” said the boss.

“We didn’t hurt them, and then we conceded a shocking third goal. We did better in the second half.

“You have to run, and you have to stay with runners, and we’re not out-running teams. You have to run, run hard and put your bodies on the line and if you don’t do that, you get beat at places like Watford.

“We need players to do simple things. Watford will have felt they had an easy game which is a shocking reflection on us.

“It was horrible to watch. It was a horrible experience and I’m embarrassed for what we saw.”
