A YEAR OF PROGRESS

One year on and club working to deliver the promise to engage fans and community

Leeds United, under owners GFH Capital, have made huge strides in re-engaging and bringing together the club’s fans following years of splits among groups who felt they had become alienated from the heart of the club.

In recent months, leading club officials have met representatives and attended meetings involving the Leeds United Supporters Club, the Leeds United Supporters Trust, and other fan groups.  The club also held a successful conference for its Regional Members Clubs at Elland Road last month.

Managing director David Haigh said: “One of the promises we made to all fans when we took over a year ago was that we would listen to all those supporters who, although passionately loyal to Leeds United FC, felt so disenfranchised by the club. We have worked hard to do everything possible to bring them right back on board.

“Engaging with all Leeds United fans was our biggest priority. They are the most important people, and we said right from the outset that we wanted to re-engage with supporters and with the community as a whole to ensure that the club got the whole-hearted and undivided support it deserves from all fans.

“It’s an ongoing process for us, but we believe we have made real positive strides in this direction. Engagement will remain a major priority going forward.”

As part of GFH Capital’s commitment to communicate openly, the club has developed the fastest growing social media channels in British Football with platforms operating across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.

The club has over 65,000 likes on Facebook, and is the most-talked about page in the Championship, according to current figures. The club has also acquired over 85,000 followers on Twitter, with the majority following the main @LUFC account.

The club’s Ticketing and Commercial departments also have interactive Twitter accounts, increasing the engagement process to give social media users direct access to the club.

With almost 9,000 subscribers to the official YouTube channel – the highest of any Championship club – and over 6,000 followers on Instagram, the club has taken huge strides towards engaging itself with social media users.
