Pre-season begins for Development Squad...

Leeds United’s Development Squad started their pre-season schedule with a goalless draw at Grimsby Borough on Sunday.

United came up against a very physical side but Academy manager and head of coaching Neil Redfearn said that all the players applied themselves well.

United’s youngsters created good chances in the game but the match was marred by a injury sustained by Lewie Coyle.

The young defender’s ankle was injured in a bad tackle and he had to be taken to hospital and it is unclear how long he will be out of action for.

Two major positives for United was the return to action of Tyler Denton who made his first appearance after suffering a serious knee injury last season, also striker Robbie McDaid made his first appearance as a Leeds player.

Neil Redfearn said: “They were a very physical side and we lost Lewie Coyle through injury. Our lads applied themselves well and created one or two good opportunities going forward.”

First 60 minutes: Atkinson, Coyle, Coker, Swann, Denton, Booker, Purver, Philips, Lyman, Stokes, Parkin.

Last 30 minutes: Peacock, Turnbull, Bennett, Assenso, Pearce, Berry, Vann, Crouz, Mbanje, McDaid, Mulhern.
