Neil Redfearn insists his Championship Manager of the Month nomination is more of a reflection on the "team effort" from those around him and says he would not hesitate in swapping it for a win against Brentford on Saturday.

Redfearn was shortlisted alongside Middlesbrough’s Aitor Karanka, Brentford’s Mark Warburton and Derby County’s Steve McClaren after his side remained unbeaten in the league throughout January.

United are now looking to make it three wins on the bounce when they welcome Brentford to Elland Road on the back of an impressive turn in form over the last month.

"It’s been a team effort, a big team effort and it’s about everybody at the club pulling in the right direction," said Redfearn.

"I think we’ve definitely seen a shift in this last month in the right direction.

"For me it’s nice to have that - it’s a sign we’re getting it right - but I’d swap it for three points on Saturday.

The head coach added: "I think it’s perhaps more about the club and about how well everybody has done at the football club to get us back into a better position.

"There’s still a long way to go but I am pleased.                                                 

"Wins breed confidence and that makes for a better football club. It makes the atmosphere better.

"There’s still a determination about us because we’ve seen now what we’re capable of.

"The focus is still there and the intensity is still there. We still need to keep doing the right things but it’s definitely in a better place."

Luke Murphy was also nominated for January’s Championship Player of the Month award and Redfearn spoke of his pride at seeing the in-form midfielder gain recognition for his recent displays.

The 25-year-old returned to the starting line-up at the start of January and netted twice in his four Championship outings last month, as well as providing the assist for Sam Byram at Huddersfield.

"I’m really pleased for Luke, I think he’s done brilliantly," said Redfearn.

"I’m thinking back now to three months ago when we sat down and had a chat about getting him in a better place.

"He’s shown good determination, Luke. There’s a strength about him, a mental strength, and the overriding thing is he’s a good player.

"He’s proving now the type of player he can be, I’m really pleased for him."
