MK DONS: EVANS EYES STRONG START TO 2016

The head coach previews Saturday's Elland Road clash...

Steve Evans is looking to start the New Year on a high note by helping maintain United’s strong run of form when MK Dons visit Elland Road on Saturday.

Tuesday night’s 2-2 draw at home to Derby County meant Evans’ side completed an unbeaten December and entered 2016 in the top half of the Championship table.

The current six-game unbeaten streak is United’s finest run of the season so far, something which Evans hopes to continue as he aims to climb the table further in the New Year.

“We’re in fantastic form and we’ve had a good December,” he said.

“If we equal that in January, it will really set us up to fight for that top end group of the table.

“Saturday is going to be tough but we go into the match in a real confident mood.

“If we can get the three points it will just finish an excellent campaign in December and leave us looking forward to 2016.”

United host MK Dons on the back of consecutive draws with Nottingham Forest and Derby – performances from which many positives were drawn but results which didn’t truly satisfy Evans.

“I’m not a head coach at Leeds United that thinks draws with Nottingham Forest and Derby County can suddenly become great results,” he said.

“The performances in both matches, I felt, deserved at least four points from those two games.

“We certainly should have taken the three points from the trip to Nottingham, where we completely outplayed the home side for virtually the entire match.

“Against Derby, I accept it could have gone either way in the end.”

Looking ahead to the visit of MK Dons, Evans added: “I think they’re an outstanding football side and in the majority of the games they play, they have the most possession of most teams in the Championship.

“But we’ve already got three points from a trip down there – probably a fortunate three points, though, which MK Dons would quite rightly feel harshly done by.”
