SUBS CHANGED THE GAME - REDFEARN

Head coach gives his verdict on 1-1 draw at Blackpool...

Neil Redfearn was content to come away from Blackpool with a point after admitting that his side were second best until a double substitution was made in the 54th minute at Bloomfield Road.

Gary Madine put the hosts ahead from close-range on the stroke of half-time, before Mirco Antenucci, who was introduced alongside Steve Morison, rescued a point with a delicate lob just eight minutes after coming on.

Redfearn said: "To come away with a point from where we were, it’s a good point in the end because we were getting beat.

"I thought they handled the conditions better than us in the first half, I thought they were the better side and deservedly went in front.

"I didn’t think we started and we gave the lads the benefit of the doubt for five minutes after half-time but it needed changing.

"We brought Morison on and Mirco Antenucci and, from then on in, I thought we looked the better side.

"We looked like we had more poke, we looked like we were going to create and going to score, culminating in the equaliser.

"I think if somebody was going to win it from there, it was going to be us.

"I’m disappointed with the way we started, but pleased in the end that we turned it around and looked more like us and got a point from it."

The visibly worn-out Bloomfield Road pitch meant it was a particularly testing afternoon for United and, although Redfearn was disappointed with how his side initially handled the conditions, the head coach was pleased with how they responded.

"It’s obvious that they’re used to playing on it, you can see that," he said.

"But we talked about it and how we needed to play on it.

"We did exactly the opposite in the first half so that was disappointing.

"But to turn it around and get something from it, and play a lot better with the changes, it ended up being a good point."
