HEAD COACH AIMS FOR STRONG FINISH

Neil Redfearn looks ahead to Fulham trip...

Neil Redfearn believes that a top 10 finish would be a "realistic target" for his side as he looks to end the season on as high of a note as possible.

With just nine games of the Championship campaign remaining, Redfearn’s United travel to Fulham on Wednesday night looking to build on a three-game unbeaten run.

The hosts come into the game occupying 20th place in the table, six points above the drop zone, but Redfearn insists he is only concerned about the fortunes of his side despite the precarious league standing of the opposition.

"There are one or two sides who are in it and they’re all playing one another," said the head coach. "They can’t all win.

"It’s leading to that bit of nervousness as the season runs its course, but we’re clearly focused in what we want to do.

"We want to finish the season really strong. We’ve turned a corner in the fact that we’re starting to look up rather than down.

"A realistic target for us now is to finish in the top 10 if we can and to strive for that.

"If we’re going to finish in the top 10, then we’re going to have to finish strong. We’ve got something to aim at."

Asked about the mood within the camp ahead of the Craven Cottage clash, Redfearn replied: "The lads are upbeat, we’re playing well.

"We played well again on Saturday, we just couldn’t get the win which I felt we probably deserved with the balance of chances.

"We’ve got a tough game now against Fulham and then we’ve got a tough trip to Blackpool.

"We want to try and keep our run going, we want to try and keep this momentum."

Redfearn has overseen a major upturn in results since the start of 2015, with his United side climbing to 13th in the Championship table after losing just three games from 13 so far this calendar year.

"I think we’ve earned our luck," said the head coach. "We’ve worked hard so it’s made us luckier.

"I think we’ve addressed the real issues of each side that we’ve played and we’ve been prepared for each side individually. We’ve picked sides accordingly.

"We’ve made sure that it’s still us and carries what we do well.

"We’ve been able to stay in games and, when we’ve had our chances, we’ve been ruthless and got over the line in games.

"The more that you do that, the more confidence you get and the more you look forward to doing it."
