David Harvey

1965-80 and 1983-85 Goalkeeper

Born:  Leeds, February 7, 1948
Debut:  West Brom (home), League Cup, October 13, 1965
Games:  444 (2)

Harvey made his debut at 17, but spent the next seven years as understudy to Gary Sprake.  In that time he still made notable appearances in a European Cup semi-final against Celtic at Hampden Park, and an FA Cup final replay against Chelsea.  A member of the FA Cup winning side in 1972 and Championship team in 1973/74, he also appeared in the 1973 FA Cup and European Cup Winners Cup finals.  Composed, determined and courageous, Harvey won 16 caps for Scotland and was voted the outstanding goalkeeper in the 1974 World Cup finals.  After playing abroad he returned to captain Eddie Gray’s youngsters, ending his career at Bradford City.

Strange but true: Harvey took and missed the final penalty against Liverpool in the 1994 Charity Shield shoot-out at Wembley.
