A French professional goalkeeper, Illan Meslier began his senior career with Lorient in France before moving to Leeds United in 2019.
Meslier joined the youth academy at FC Lorient in 2009 and progressed through the ranks, making his professional debut for the club in August 2018 in a Coupe de la Ligue match against Valenciennes.
He went on to make 30 appearances for Lorient in Ligue 2 during the 2018–19 season, keeping multiple clean sheets and attracting attention from clubs across Europe.
In August 2019, Meslier signed for Leeds United on a season-long loan with an option to buy. Initially serving as backup, he made his Leeds debut in an FA Cup match against Arsenal in January 2020 and was later handed his league debut in March the same year.
Meslier featured in the final stretch of the season as Leeds secured promotion to the Premier League and the Championship title. He joined the club permanently in July 2020.
In the Premier League, Meslier became the youngest goalkeeper to keep 11 clean sheets in a single season and went on to make over 100 top-flight appearances. He remained first-choice goalkeeper following Leeds’ relegation to the Championship in 2023 and has represented France at multiple youth levels, including the U21s.
