A product of Exeter City's academy, Ethan became the club’s youngest-ever first-team player at just 15 years old. He joined Chelsea in 2017 and gained experience through loans at RB Leipzig, Sheffield United, Venezia, and Spezia.

In July 2023, Ampadu signed with Leeds United on a permanent deal and was later appointed club captain. Known for his versatility and calm presence, he played a key role in Leeds winning the 2024–25 EFL Championship and securing promotion to the Premier League.

Internationally, Ampadu debuted for Wales in November 2017 and has since featured in UEFA Euro 2020 and the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
