The match officials for Leeds United’s Sky Bet Championship clash with Watford on Tuesday have been announced, with Anthony Backhouse set to take charge at Elland Road.

Now with over 350 appearances to his name, the Cumbria-based official learnt his trade on the National League and the Premier League 2 circuits, before being handed his EFL debut in 2017.

So far this campaign, Backhouse has taken charge of five matches in the Sky Bet Championship, as well as featuring in League One, League Two and the EFL Cup.

One of those ties in the Carabao Cup came at Elland Road, as the Whites bowed out of the competition earlier in the season, courtesy of a defeat at the hands of Middlesbrough.

That fixture was the first time Backhouse has ever officiated a match involving Leeds, having also refereed Watford just once. That outing came previously this campaign, when the Hornets fell to a heavy defeat away at Norwich City.

2024/25 stats:

Games (all competitions): 9

Yellow cards issued: 32

Red cards issued: 1

Other match officials selected:

Assistant referees: Alex James & Bhupinder Singh Gill

Fourth official: Josh Smith
