Leeds United supporter Libby has reached the final of the Leeds Children’s Mayor election, with her campaign focused on creating more sporting opportunities for children with disabilities across the city.

Libby has a strong connection with Leeds United and has regularly taken part in Leeds United Foundation events. She has also featured on the club’s channels after being surprised by first-team duo Wilfried Gnonto and Ao Tanaka during a Healthy Holiday camp at Beeston Primary School.

The pair revealed that Libby had been selected as a mascot for the Premier League fixture against West Ham United, where she fulfilled a dream by walking out at Elland Road alongside captain Ethan Ampadu.

Running under the title ‘Fun for All – Play, Belong and Achieve!’, Libby’s manifesto focuses on improving opportunities for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to get involved in sport.

While she recognises the work already being done by organisations across Leeds to provide inclusive sporting opportunities, Libby wants to make families more aware of what is available and help ensure children can access activities within their local communities.

The Leeds United Foundation also features in her manifesto, having played a role in Libby’s own experience of inclusive sport. Through the Foundation, she has had opportunities to be active, make friends and build confidence.

Speaking about her campaign, Libby said: “I believe every child should have the chance to be active, make friends, build confidence and experience the world of sport.

“I believe every child should feel included, be proud of who they are and know that anything is possible.”

Voting remains open until 5pm Friday 25th September, with Libby hoping to reach as many people across Leeds as possible before the deadline.

Her campaign is inspired by her own experiences and the opportunities she has had through inclusive sport, and she hopes to help make those experiences available to more children across the city.
