U21s Preview: Leeds United vs West Ham United

Whites back in PL2 action.

LNER Stadium (April 2025)

Leeds United Under-21s return to Premier League 2 action on Saturday afternoon, facing West Ham Under-21s at the LNER Community Stadium in York a week after they showed tremendous grit to rally from two goals down away to Chelsea Under-21s.

At Cobham Training Centre outside London, the PL2’s second placed side looked like pulling away despite tightly contested action but Scott Gardner’s weren’t to be beaten.

First, it was Freddie Lane, finishing coolly from a Jayden Lienou assist to halve the deficit. And then it was the hard-working Rhys Chadwick, who picked up from Jack Morris and arrowed a strike into the back of the net! 2-2 and a crucial away point for the Whites.

Previously in league action, Leeds fell to defeat against strong Manchester City and Liverpool Under-21s sides, though Gardner’s men represented themselves well in both clashes and nearly earned a draw against the Reds, with Marley Wilson’s goal cancelled out through a controversial penalty in the game’s dying seconds.

The Whites currently sit 21st in the congested PL2 standings with 15 points from their opening 14 encounters, while the visitors are tenth, with three wins and a draw from their last four.

That run includes a 3-0 home triumph against Crystal Palace last time out, a National League Cup win over Tamworth and a Premier League International Cup victory over RSC Anderlecht Futures.

The teams last met just over a year ago, as the Whites fell 2-1 in York despite a wonderful curling effort from Cian Coleman.

Action from the LNER Community Stadium gets underway at 12:30pm.
