Leeds United Under-21s return to Premier League 2 action on Friday evening, welcoming Middlesbrough Under-21s to the LNER Community Stadium.
The Whites go into the encounter on the back of a fantastic display in the National League Cup, where a win over Altrincham ensured Scott Gardner’s side reached the final of the inaugural competition.
Goals either side of the break from Diogo Monteiro and Josh McDonald ensured United progressed to face Sutton United for a shot at silverware, running out 2-1 winners in Greater Manchester.
That result came after Leeds were held to a 2-2 draw in the PL2 by Manchester United U21s at Thorp Arch, despite skipper Alfie Cresswell and striker Harry Gray getting on the scoresheet in the first half.
That draw kept the Whites 16th in the standings, nine points clear of 24th-placed Middlesbrough.
Despite the Teesside outfit’s low position in the league, Boro have enjoyed an upturn in form as of late, winning two of their last three matches.
Most recently, Mark Tinkler’s side beat Southampton 1-0 on home soil thanks to Pharrell Willis’ solitary goal.
Action from the LNER Community Stadium gets underway at 7pm.
The Whites progress to the final!
