Leeds United Under-21s play their final home match of the Premier League 2 Division 2 season on Sunday afternoon (2pm), taking on Middlesbrough Under-21s.

The match takes place at the City of York Council’s LNER Community Stadium, with ticket information further down the page for fans wishing to attend.

It’s a big game for Paco Gallardo’s side in the battle to win promotion back to Division 1 and depending on results elsewhere, they could achieve that on Sunday if all goes to plan.

Nottingham Forest are currently top of the standings on 41 points, but they have now completed all their matches this season. That means both Leeds - on 39 points - need to win to reclaim top spot, and better the result of Southampton away at Norwich, who also have 39 points.

Should the Saints win away at Norwich City, in a match that gets underway at the same time, Gallardo’s side will have another opportunity to claim the title this coming Friday when they travel to West Bromwich Albion.

Opponents Middlesbrough come into the game with very little on their final match of the season. The Reds are in 7th spot in the table, unable to be caught by the teams behind them and unable to catch the teams above them with such a short time to go.

They have won seven, dawn five and lost seven of their 19 matches up to now. Boro will pose a clear challenge to the United defence, having scored 45 goals up to now, ranking them as one of the highest scorers within the division.

Sonny Finch will be a player to watch for Leeds, with the Boro forward their top scorer so far this season. For Leeds, Mateo Joseph has 15 goals to his name up to now and will be hoping to add to his tally before the end of the season to reclaim top spot in the divisional stats.

Last time we met:

When the two teams met back in October at Rockliffe Park, Mateo Joseph netted an impressive hat-trick for Leeds, helping them towards a 4-2 victory in an entertaining game. The other scorer that day for the Whites was Sean McGurk.
