Tomas Schanelec netted a brace as Sparta Prague ran out 3-1 winners against Leeds United in difficult conditions at a rain soaked LNER Community Stadium.

Leeds had the first chance of the match inside two minutes, Sean McGurk and Darko Gyabi linked up well, with the latter firing into the side netting.

Seven minutes later, Sparta Prague created their first chance, with Michal Sevcik forcing Harry Christy into action with a strike from range.

Kris Moore saw a shot saved following a Leeds corner, before Gyabi was denied by Jakub Surovcik after being played through by Charlie Crew.

Daniel Rus struck from 25 yards for the visitors with a really well hit shot, bringing out a fine save from Hatty Christy, in the difficult wet conditions.

The visitors took the lead in the 26th minute, Schanelec went through one-on-one with Christy and he made no mistake, slotting it past the outcoming Leeds stopper.

Leeds should have levelled the scores six minutes later, McGurk played a lovely ball across the face of the Sparta goal, and with Keenan Carole at the back post looking certain to score, somehow the ball ended up in the arms of Prague goalkeeper Surovcik.

A minute later, Leeds had another superb chance, Gyabi won possession deep in the Sparta half and put Luca Thomas one-on-one, but he put the chance wide.

Leeds were made to rue the two missed chances, when Sparta Prague doubled the lead six minutes from the break. Sevcik was found at the back post and he followed it up with a lovely curling strike into the top corner.

McGurk nearly pulled a goal back for Leeds on the stroke of half time, he broke into the box from a corner, before seeing a low curling strike brilliantly saved.

Half time: Leeds United 0-2 Sparta Prague

Leeds made the perfect start to the second half, Lewis Bate brilliantly flicked the ball over the Sparta Prague defence to send McGurk into the box and he provided the finish.

McGurk nearly pulled Leeds level in the 51st minute, but Surovcik made another fine stop to deny him.

At the other end, Christy was on hand to prevent Sparta from regaining their two goal lead, denying Schanelec after he was teed up by Sevcik.

Sevcik saw a volley well saved from the edge of the box following a Prague corner, before Schanelec saw a header denied following a cross by Lukas Vana.

Sevcik again went close, driving forwards to the edge of the Leeds box, before firing a bending effort just wide.

Schanelec teed up substitute Jakub Tosnar to strike from the edge of the box, but Christy made another good stop, whilst from the resulting counter attack, Gyabi fired just over from 25 yards.

Substitute Charlie Allen was next to go close for the Whites, he was just inches away from finding the top left corner, with a well hit shot from the edge of the box.

However, the visitors sealed the win in the second minute of stoppage time, with Schanelec taking advantage of a slip by James Debayo and converting from a narrow angle.
