Travelling to Manchester, this was a second away trip in five days for Scott Gardner’s side. After being beaten against Liverpool on Friday night, Leeds were looking to bounce back against rivals Manchester United in this Premier League North clash.
The home side started the better and scored inside the opening two minutes. Jack Moorhouse pinched the ball high up and slid in James Scanlon, who pushed forward into the box and smashed his effort into the back of the net.
After the frantic start, both teams settled into the game. A first chance for Leeds came after half an hour played, when Dan Toulson split the home defence with a crisp pass to Scott Godden, who saw his one-on-one effort saved by the alert goalkeeper.
On the stroke of half time the Whites were level! A smart move down the right-hand side saw Max McFadden drill a low ball across the box to find Llyeton Brown, who made no mistake from close range!
This was the final piece of action for the first 45 with the sides going in level at the Carrington Training Centre.
HALF TIME: Manchester United 1-1 Leeds United
Gardner’s side started the second half sharply and got the first chance when substitute Ben Andreucci cut in from the right-hand side and drilled an effort goalwards, but home ‘keeper Elyh Harrison was equal to it in the Manchester net.
Against the run of play, Manchester United retook the lead with 20 minutes left in the match. Sam Mather floated a cross towards the back post and on the half volley, Manni Norkett struck his effort past Rory Mahady and into the far corner.
After conceding, the Whites had another great chance when Sam Chambers cut a pass back to Andreucci, but his effort was blocked by James Nolan to deflect the shot over the bar.
With seconds left to play, the hosts ended the game by getting their third. Shea Lacey weaved his way past the Leeds defence and clipped a cross to substitute Ethan Wheatley, who hammered it home from close range.
This was the last of the action in the Premier League North fixture meaning that Leeds suffered a narrow defeat.
