England boss Thomas Tuchel's hope is that James Trafford 'proves a point' with his performance against Czechia.

The Three Lions face the second game of the September international break this evening in Prague, having lost 3-2 to Spain on Saturday.

Trafford started in goal for Tuchel in the Nations League opener with the England boss confirmed prior to the game that the Leeds stopper would also get the nod against Czechia.

Further explaining his selection decision before the Fortuna Arena clash, Tuchel said he wanted to give Trafford the chance to build relationships on the pitch.

"For me it was important he stays in goal, so he can use this experience with these players that he’s not played so much or maybe never played with," Tuchel said. “They can use it together as a defensive unit, a defensive block."

Trafford was part of the England squad that went to the World Cup this summer, along with 91-cap veteran Jordan Pickford, Dean Henderson and Jason Steele. One of Tuchel's aims for this Nations League camp is to see if Trafford can provide a real challenge for the number one shirt.

"I’m glad he gets this experience," he said. "We just want to see who else is capable of producing performances for us, who else is ready for a challenge and ready to challenge Jordan Pickford, who did so well for us over so many years. Trafford got the chance now with two matches. Hopefully he can prove a point."
